Truluck’s
Address: 2401 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, TX 75201 This Austin-based seafood & steak chain earns accolades of all sorts for its fresh and tasty cuisine. “These giant, creamy-pink claws with black tips yield some of the most plump and juicy seafood ever tasted.” (Ft. Boston lettuce is grilled and served up with bacon and blue cheese dressing. “The flavors and textures make a fun departure from the typical house salad.” (The Dallas Morning News) Other TABC favorites include meat loaf, homemade pizza, pan-seared sea bass, and chicken with jalapeño dumplings. Tahitian Noni Cafe
Address: 3000 Blackburn Street, Suite 140, Dallas, TX 75204 Yes, a taste of Tahiti in Uptown Dallas! In 2003, the first Tahitian Noni Café opened in Tokyo. Stoneleigh P
Address: 2926 Maple Avenue, Dallas, TX 75201 Just across the street from Dallas Uptown’s Stoneleigh Hotel, you’ll find Stoneleigh P restaurant. And, what does the “P” stand for? (Don’t you know the wait staff grows tired of answering that question!) We’ll satisfy your curiosity here and now. “P” stands for “Pharmacy”. The story goes something like this. In 1973, five guys got together with the idea to convert a World War I era drugstore into a restaurant. These entrepreneurs wanted to maintain the charm of the place by keeping various pharmacy fixtures and using its original name: “Stoneleigh Pharmacy”. But there was a slight problem. At the time, the law required businesses with a “Pharmacy” title to employ an actual on-site pharmacist. To avoid re-filing lengthy paperwork, crafty attorneys jumped in with a quick fix: white-out. Legal forms were simply altered with correction fluid, covering “harmacy”, keeping the “P”. How’s that for a story? Now, on to the cuisine. Stoneleigh P serves up a pretty fantastic burger — which even receives a well-deserved nod from The New York Times. Other selections run the gamut from sandwiches to pastas and salmon. Browse the complete menu on Stoneleigh P’s official Web site. Sunday brunch, from 11 am – 3 pm, features numerous entrees for under $6 and specials on mimosas and Bloody Marys. Riccardi’s
Address: 2800 Routh Street, Suite 115, Dallas, TX 75201 Situated in the Uptown district, this bistro serves up authentic, traditional Italian cuisine in style. Crystal chandeliers, crisp white tablecloths, and frescoes are just a few decorative touches which set the chic, yet unpretentious, tone. In 2005, proprietors Anita and Gaetano Riccardi introduced Riccardi’s to Dallas, and “it’s one of the area’s best Italian eateries and one of the best new spots to open this year” raves The Dallas Morning News. Familiar dishes such as Veal Parmagiana and Chicken Marsala are tasty and consistent. “But when the kitchen gets creative, the results are stunning. Stuffed quail and baby rack of lamb in cannellini ragout are gripping in their mesh of flavors.” (Dallas Observer) Browse the complete menu on Riccardi’s official Web site. Palomino
Tucked in Dallas’ upscale Crescent Court, Palomino has been an Uptown neighborhood favorite since its doors opened in 1997. The restaurant, part of the Seattle-based group Restaurants Unlimited Inc., doesn’t quite feel like your typical chain. “Stunning”, raves Gayot, with “imported woods and marbles, colorful Matisse-style paintings, and art-glass chandeliers”. Not only is the ambiance eloquent, the cuisine is top-notch at this European-style eatery (evidenced by Guide Live’s 4-star rating). Menu choices abound with salads, pasta, pizza, poultry, and steak offerings, but seafood is the real specialty here. Favorites include paella (a nice, substantial portion!) and the Brick Oven-Roasted Garlic Prawns. For a full listing of options, peruse the lunch and dinner menus on Palomino’s official Web site. The Capital Grille
Address: 500 Crescent Court, Dallas, TX 75201 Zagat Survey describes The Capital Grille steaks as “rich, juicy…cooked to perfection.” While known primarily as an upscale steakhouse, this national chain offers Uptown Dallas restaurant-goers with some seafood alternatives as well: Swordfish Jardinière and Sesame Seared Tuna, for instance. The ambiance is chic, but it’s not over-the-top pretentious. And the waiters pay attention to you! Great service here. It’s definitely worth a visit, especially if you’re in the mood for a superb filet mignon! Preview the lunch and dinner menus to whet your appetite. Chipotle
Address: 2705 McKinney Avenue, Dallas, TX 75204 In the mood for Mexican but pressed for time? Chipotle is the perfect solution. This Mexican fast food chain (which used to be owned by McDonald’s, incidentally) has a convenient location in the heart of Uptown Dallas. No longer associated with McDonald’s, you can now buy Chipotle stock! It’s a pretty chic-looking joint as far as fast food spots go, and the price is definitely right. All of your typical Mexican fare is served up — burritos, fajitas, tacos, etc. — and dishes are made to order with super-fresh ingredients right in front of you. Plus, Chipotle has an added benefit: Mexican beer and margaritas are on the menu! The only bad part is that they think they are too good to serve queso, so you can’t get any there. I recommend visiting the official web site and emailing them to tell them that you want queso, and you want it YESTERDAY. Choose the section called “Speak”.
